Sex and Happiness

In the unpublished study, "Money, Sex, and Happiness," researchers from Dartmouth College and Warwick University (UK) found that people who consider themselves happiest are those who are having the most sex. The study does not claim that having sex causes happiness or vice versa. But of the 16,000 people in the research sample, happiness was associated with sex for both women and men and people under and over the age of 40. And despite the notion that money can buy happiness, researchers found little — if any — connection between increased wealth and long-term happiness.

I would love to see more data on this since this doesn't indicate whether the people who are claiming to be happy because of more sex are doing so with multiple partners or with just one. I would hypothesize that those having more sex with one partner is far "happier" than those with multiple partners since one would think the happiness is more from the initimacy two people would share rather than the randomness of just regular pickup sex.

Agreed. I doubt that random partners would bring the same happiness as one consistent partner. I haven't had that many partners in my short life, but I do know I am far happier when I am in a committed relationship rather than dating different partners. It is probably fair to assume intimacy is the catalyst for happiness in most people and not the physical act of sex.

Agreed. For instance, I'm currently not in a relationship and do not have multiple partners and although I do have sexual cravings it's more the affection and the intimacy that I crave more and because of that, I would rather go without sex than to have artificial intimacy just for the sake of it.

Agreed! After not having a relationship for quite some time, I found it was the physical contact of the non-sexual variety, that pleased me most. And I for one, totally agree that a steady monogomous/commited relationship brings about more happiness.
